What is Sonic OS?

Sonic OS is a Operating System for the Intel x86, and IA64 platform. It is able to run on many different processors and systems, for details information on this see the Platforms page. Sonic OS provides an easy to use Graphical User Interface (GUI) and has many features only scratched on the surface in high level operating systems. Included is the ability to port to many different Computer Systems therefore it is able to suit a range of users. The Sonic Operating System is not a clone and/or based on Unix, rather its Kernel is being written from scratch with the reliability and security of Windows 2000 and Unix in mind. The Kernel is a micro-kernel that is running in Protected Mode along with the "Op Manager" which handles many of the management functions of an Operating System.

Sonic OS is currently in the planning/design stages and is expected to go into development shortly. Sonic will be available for Alpha Testing around the middle of December, however manual installation is required, as no GUI and/or Text based  Installation program is currently available. Download Instructions or Links can be found by following the appropriate links.

The Application Programming Interface in Sonic OS is Sos32, and is made up of a C++ API, and other System Call API's. These are all important for developers, therefore more documentation and information for the Application Programming interface can be found by going to the Sos32 page. Although Sos32 is the native API, we don't expect all developers to learn this, therefore Sonic OS can run POSIX (Unix, Linux, BSD), Mac, and even WINDOWS! Programs through emulation and implementation of the API's associated with the particular Operating System. Information on this can be found on the Compatibility page.
